The ideas for my work almost always come from within rather than from a concern for depicting the world outside. As such my paintings tend to cycle between polarities not uncommon to most people. At times putting charcoal and pastel to paper or oil to canvass I explore feelings with narratives that conjure up darker images. These works are brought into balance by the opposite kind of thoughts, those that release positive feelings and are narratives of fantasy, light and color. Thus as I struggle with the creative process a balance between light and dark reveals itself not only in each work but as a body of work comes into focus over time.
